JUNE 13, 2012 UP TO AND INCLUDING SEPTEMBER 5, 2013

2013 Garbage & Recycling Calendar

2013 Garbage & Collection Calendar - Reduced Version

The Town of Lakeshore's garbage collection is currently contracted out to Windsor Disposal Services. If you have a problem with your garbage collection, please call WDS at 519-944-8009.

We recommend both garbage and recycling is put out the night before your scheduled day. WDS attempts to pick up the garbage early so residents may put their bins back before they leave for work, reducing the possibility of bins being knocked over and blown around by the wind. If you have street collection, place your garbage at the roads edge, not on the road. Alley collection should have the garbage on the ground or on a stand no higher than 16 inches at the alley's edge. Containers weighing more than 20 kg/45 lbs or any containers over 125L/30 gal are TOO BIG and will NOT be collected due to health and safety restrictions.
 

Area 1 (Blue): Wednesday garbage and recycling (every other)

Area 2 (Pink): Thursday garbage and recycling (every other)

Area 3 (Green): Monday garbage and Thursday recycling (every other)

New: Televisions and computer equipment are no longer considered garbage and will not be collected. Drop off free of charge to the Public Drop off depot.

White Goods

While goods include appliances, household metal items such as hot water tanks, swing sets, barbecues, metal sheds, bicycles, etc. White good pickup is offered FREE to all Lakeshore residents. To arrange for this pickup, call Windsor Disposal Services at 519-944-8009.

Concrete, Dirt and Brick Disposal

Small quantities of residentially generated and hauled concrete, dirt, rubble and bricks will be accepted at the Public Drop off depot (E.C. Row and Central). Tipping fees may apply, call 519-974-1010 or 1-800-563-3377 with any questions.

Large quantities of 'clean' concrete, 'clean' asphalt or 'clean' cement blocks (separated loads of each material) may be disposed of at the following businesses: Coco Paving 519-948-7133, Dunn Paving 519-727-3838 or Amico Contracting 519-737-1577. Clean indicates no dirt or metal rebar/backing attached to the concrete or asphalt. These businesses do not take dirt, brick or rubble. Call ahead for location, hours and charges.

There are two Public Drop off Depots:

Windsor - 3560 North Service Road (corner of EC Row and Central)

• Dec/Jan/Feb/Mar - M-F 8:30 am to 6:45 pm - Sat 9:00 am to 12:45 pm
• Apr/May - M-F 8:00 am to 6:45 pm - Sat 8:00 am to 4:45 pm
• June through Nov - M- Sat 8:00 am to 4:45 pm

• Nov - March - M-F 8:30 am to 4:15 pm - Sat 9:00 am to noon

Household Chemical Waste

Household Chemical Waste (HCW) materials are harmful to humans, animals and the environment, as well as begin the leading cause of water pollution in North America. They should never be flushed down the toilet, poured down the sink or deposited in a storm drain. Storm drains are not treated or filtered. Everything that goes into a storm drain flows into local creeks and lakes. Prevent this by using the HCW Depot. These items can be dropped off free of charge for residential customers only. Residential customers are restricted to two (2) twenty (20) litre pails of household chemical waste per trip.

Common HCW items include:

• Oil and oil filters
• Glues/ Adhesives
• Batteries (all types)
• Propane tanks and cylinders
• Car care products
• Gasoline
• Fluorescent lights
• Paints, varnishes and stains
• Pesticides
• Pool Chemicals

This centre has products that are used, but not 'used up' (such as paint). Pickup most of these products free of charge.

Electronic Waste

Electronic waste (e-waste) is the fastest growing source of waste in North America. As faster, smaller and more powerful computer equipment, phones, televisions, stereos, and small home appliances are introduced, current models quickly become obsolete. Unfortunately, these electronics are filling up landfills fast.

Lead, cadmium and mercury are found in most electronic equipment, making them a hazardous risk to human health and the environment if they are not disposed of properly.

If it has a cord it can be recycled!

Anything with cord can be recycled FREE at the Public Drop off depot.

Recycling

Lakeshore has both blue and red box recycling. We recommend you write your name and/or address on your Blue and Red boxes in case they are blown away by the wind or stolen. Replacement or additional boxes can be purchased at participating Home Hardware or Canadian Tire stores.

Products that cannot be Recycled

Blue box items include:

• polycoate beverage cartons (i.e. milk cartons) - discard plastic lids
• Aluminum foil
• tubs and lids (such as margarine containers)
• Food and beverage cans
• plastic bottles and jugs
• empty paint and aerosol cans
• glass bottles and jars

Red box items include:

• newspaper
• magazines, catalogues and telephone books
• mixed paper
• cardboard

Point of Interest: The Town of Lakeshore pays tipping fees for all garbage collected. If Recyclable items are included in the garbage, we are paying an unnecessary cost. Tipping fees paid for recyclables in garbage unnecessarily increase our costs and reduce the life of our landfill space.
