Yesterday, the Government of Ontario announced its plan to expand Strong Mayor powers to 169 municipalities throughout the province, including the Municipality of Lakeshore, effective May 1, 2025.
While the legislation aims to reduce obstacles and streamline governance towards the achievement of provincial priorities, it also erodes the voices of ward representatives and local democracy as a whole.

Lakeshore Adopts Program Charter to Deliver Water and Wastewater Master Plan

At the meeting on April 8, 2025, Lakeshore Council approved a Program Charter designed to support the funding and delivery of the 2024 Water and Wastewater Master Plan.
The charter includes investments in permanent and contract-based staffing and the creation of a project team to coordinate over $210 million of water and wastewater infrastructure over the next five years.

At the meeting on March 25, 2025, Lakeshore Council approved a groundbreaking local partnership with the Windsor Law’s Centre for Cities (C4C).
