Dear Homeowner and/or Resident:

RE: NOTICE OF SIDEWALK REPAIRS/CONSTRUCTION

This letter will confirm that sidewalk repair/replacement work will begin in Belle River on Friday, June 16th, subject to existing weather conditions. This work was approved by Council as part of the 2017 budget. Sidewalk replacement work includes the following three (3) locations:
  • Ouellette Street (west side) from Notre Dame St. to St. Charles St.
  • Eighth Street (east side) from St. Charles St. to Notre Dame St.
  • Centre Street (south side) from South St. to 664 Centre St.
Because of this work, the Town requests that any existing landscaping, private light standards, underground lawn sprinklers, etc. within the Town’s right-of-way that may conflict with the proposed sidewalk alignment will need to be removed or relocated. The width of the new sidewalk will be 1.5m (5’). A clear zone of 1m (3’) on either side of the new sidewalk would be the optimum requirement.  The typical scope of work for this project includes the following improvements:
  • Excavation and Removals
  • Installation of new concrete sidewalk
  • Restoration including grading, topsoil and seeding

While construction is in progress, some inconvenience to local pedestrian and vehicular traffic will be unavoidable, but the construction schedule will be arranged to reduce this to a minimum.  When construction advances to your residence, there may be a short period during which you will be required to make alternate parking arrangements to allow for the restoration of driveways and other accesses, as well as to allow the concrete to sufficiently cure to a point that vehicles can drive over it. Following completion of the restorations we ask for your cooperation in watering and maintaining the restored area to ensure that the seeded areas return to grass quickly. Weed growth is inevitable, but with regular watering and cutting, the restored areas will soon return to a turf like appearance.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact the undersigned at (519) 728-2488 extension 300 or via email at cchevalier@lakeshore.ca. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding while this work is taking place.
    Thank you,
