What is Mobility as it relates to economic development?
Mobility can be defined as the potential for movement and the ability to get to once place to another using one or more modes of transport to meet daily needs. It is the ability and level of ease of moving goods and individuals throughout Lakeshore and the region.
What does Mobility and Innovation mean to Lakeshore?
Specific to the Municipality of Lakeshore and the Division, mobility and innovation focuses on the planning and subsequent delivery of services or service offerings that help individuals and products move freely, efficiently, and sustainably throughout Lakeshore and region.
As the Division is new, the first element of mobility planning is the feasibility study of mass transit in Lakeshore.
Subsequent projects may include the integration of future automobility and mobility technologies such as connected, autonomous, shared, cybersecure, and zero emission vehicles in the community.
Lakeshore works closely with the Division of Automobility and Innovation at Invest WindsorEssex to help advance future technologies in the Municipality.
Automobility
Mobility has long been defined as the ability to move or be moved freely and easily. Today, the word mobility has expanded to refer to the evolution in the movement of people and goods through vast technological advancements. The way people and goods travel from point A to point B is changing, driven by a series of converging technological and social trends, including:
- Vehicle autonomy
- Electrification
- Connectivity
- Secure transportation
- New transportation innovations (such as: first mile/last mile solutions, data accessibility and automation)
The result, is the emergence of a new economic sector of activity that supports transportation mobility innovation that could offer faster, cheaper, cleaner, safer, more efficient, and more customized travel. Mobility is effectively the journey in the evolution of getting from one place to another. The World Economic Forum refers to the advancements linked to mobility as the beginning of a Fourth Industrial Revolution. Except pulled from the Invest WindsorEssex website.
