A Fire Master Plan was completed in 2011 to outline the direction of the Fire Services Division. A new Fire Master planning event is underway currently. We should see a completed document in Winter of 2024.
Fire Station Location Study was performed in 2017 to model optimize fire station locations based on insurance industry standards and best practices as it relates specifically to our municipal fire risks.
Fire Underwriters Tanker Shuttle Accreditation
The Lakeshore Fire Department provides a number of services including;
- Automobile extrication and spill control
- Assisting ambulance with basic CPR and defibrillator skills
- 300 feet off shore ice and water rescue
- Awareness level hazmat support
- Fire suppression services
- Smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarm investigation
- Fire alarm investigation
- Fire Code Inspections
- Public Education
- Municipal Emergency Management
The department averages around 600 calls for assistance each year.
The Municipality of Lakeshore is serviced through 5 fire stations:
- Station 1 - 1031 County Road 22, Emeryville
- Station 2 - 1465 Lakeshore Road 203, Maidstone
- Station 3 - Headquarters - 592 St. Charles St. Belle River
- Station 4 - 2095 County Road 31, Ruscom
- Station 5 - 6400 Main Street, Comber
With 95 dedicated volunteer firefighters and 7 full time administrative staff including:
- Clerical support
- Fire Prevention Officers (2)
- Assistant Deputy Fire Chief - Training and Fire Prevention
- Assistant Deputy Fire Chief - Fleet and Equipment Support Services
- Deputy Fire Chief of Operations
- Fire Chief
Each fire station consists of;
- a District Chief
- 3 Captains
- 2 Acting Captains
- Up to 15 firefighters
The fire department fleet consists of:
- 5 Pumpers
- 4 Pumper/ Tankers
- 1 – 100' Aerial Platform
- 1 Rescue
- 2 Fire Prevention vehicles
- 2 Support vehicles
- 3 Command Units
- 1 Fire Safety Trailer
The Fire Chief and the Deputy are certified Community Emergency Management Coordinators and responsible to maintain and update the Emergency Response Plan for The Municipality of Lakeshore.
The Assistant Deputy Chief heads up the fire inspection and public education section of the business. This division includes a routine fire inspection program for most occupancy types and provides specific inspection services based on request or complaint.
