Shared on behalf of the County of Essex
The County of Essex in consultation with the Municipality of Lakeshore is modifying the design of the County Road 22 corridor enhancement project in response to feedback received from the public and will hold another Public Consultation Centre to seek input on the changes.
Council supported a plan presented by the project team and these modifications:
- Eliminate the cycle tracks on both sides of County Road 22 while maintaining a sidewalk on the north side, a multi-use path on the south side and a centre turning lane for traffic.
- Extend Faith Drive from St. Mary’s Road to Renaud Drive before the reconstruction of County Road 22 begins.
- Ensure that traffic signals at the intersection of County Road 22 and Emery Drive are installed after or while Faith Drive is extended.
- Remove proposed benches and trees.
- Host another Public Consultation Centre to gather feedback on the updated design.
The design changes are expected to cost $121,130 in additional engineering fees, but anticipated costs associated with property acquisition and construction may be significantly reduced.
The updated design will be presented at a Public Consultation Centre in the winter at a date to be determined.
Enhancements for the 5.8 km stretch of County Road 22 between I.C. Roy Drive and West Belle River Road were identified as priorities in the 2006 County Road 22 Environmental Assessment Study and the County Road 22 Corridor Alternatives and Strategies Study completed in 2022.
