Mayor’s Message: A Look Back and A Look Ahead
On behalf of Council, I’d like to wish everyone a joyous holiday season and happy New Year. This season is an opportunity to reflect on challenges faced and accomplishments achieved. In Council’s first year of our four-year term, we’ve had plenty of both.
Early this year, we faced unprecedented financial pressures yet delivered the 2023 Budget, that balanced the needs of our growing municipality with those of individual residents and taxpayers.
We then took great strides in protecting the rural landscape with key decisions on regulating greenhouses. We were at the table to ensure we played a constructive role in the future of energy in our region by advocating for residents and engaging Provincial leaders on battery energy storage systems. We also approved a landmark agreement with Hydro One that will see $8 million of local investments, including culture and recreation projects in communities affected by future transmission lines.
Throughout these challenging issues, Council has also embarked on a strategic planning process which will help guide our actions over the next three years, and we are excited to present these goals to our community members.
While Council has the authority to act on many issues, these decisions would not be possible without the dedicated members of Team Lakeshore as well as the passionate residents who stand up to have their say.
We appreciate all the hard work that has gone into making the first year of Council’s term a success, and we look forward to three more years of serving our communities.
Together we are Lakeshore.
