The following is a summary of issues and matters that Council dealt with at the meeting held on February 13, 2024. A video recording of the meeting will also be posted at Lakeshore.ca/TV.
These highlights are not official minutes of the meeting and are meant solely for general communications. The approved minutes are the only official record of Council Proceedings and decisions.
Council:
- Received a presentation of the new Land Acknowledgement video, which will be played at all upcoming Council, board, and committee meetings.
- Approved the 2024 budget for the Belle River Business Improvement Area.
- Appointed Mayor Bailey and Councillor McNamara to the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee is an internal advisory committee with the purpose of reviewing human resources-related matters that require Council approval, and to provide advice and recommendations to Administration on these matters. The matters will eventually move forward to a report to Council for consideration.
- Supported the resolution by the City of Brantford regarding Reliable and Accessible Public Rail Transit/CN Rail.
- Received the following Reports for Information:
- Caille Avenue Drainage and Traffic Calming Improvements
- Denis St. Pierre Pollution Control Plant Expansion Project Update
- Approved By-law 21-2024 to amend By-law 34-2019, to Appoint Statutory Officials and Enforcement Officers, in order to include the Assistant Drainage Superintendent position.
- Approved Option 4 presented in the Patillo Road Reconstruction Options report, to move forward with detailed design in 2024, to be tendered for construction to begin in 2025. Option 4 includes three lanes, from County Road 22 to immediately south of Richard Ruston, and two lanes south of Richard Ruston Drive to the CP Rail tracks, one new signalized intersection at Silver Creek Road, with dedicated left turn signals. The three-lane section will include a sidewalk (both sides), along with a new curb and gutter system on both sides."
- Directed Administration to bring a report regarding the feasibility of creating a Property Standards By-law amendment relating to potholes on private roads, including the legal, financial, and enforcement implications; and further directed Administration to bring a report regarding the Roads Assumption Policy.
- Directed Administration to bring a report proposing a new private road assumption program with the associated costs to resolve the ongoing challenges presented by the current road conditions and revise the Assumption of Private Road Policy accordingly.
