The Municipality of Lakeshore's smoke testing program will continue next week in the Belle River area.
The testing is expected to start on Monday, September 25, 2023, weather permitting. The testing will take place in the area south of County Road 22, north of the train tracks, east of Renaud Line Road, and west of Rourke Line Road.
Smoke testing uses a white, non-toxic vapour to identify locations where stormwater is entering the sanitary sewer system. The process will help identify problem areas and prioritize necessary improvements in both public and private systems.
The testing is part of the ongoing implementation of Lakeshore’s Flood Mitigation & Protection Framework, a multi-pronged effort designed to address the complex challenges of flooding and climate change.

Background
In August of 2021, the Municipality of Lakeshore initiated the implementation of its Flood Mitigation & Protection Framework (FMPF).
The framework represents a multi-pronged approach to addressing the complex challenges of flooding and climate change. It focuses on both roadway and basement flooding caused by stormwater and sanitary sources. It includes investments in new programs, expanded investigation and by-law enforcement capacity, policy, and by-law reviews, as well as staff positions designed to support its implementation.
