Voter Eligibility
Anyone can vote in a municipal election who, on the day of the election, is:
- 18 years of age or older; and
- A Canadian citizen; and
- Either a resident of the municipality, a property owner or tenant, or the spouse or partner of an owner or tenant in the municipality; and
- Not prohibited from voting under the Municipal Elections Act; and
- On the Voters List
Only one vote may be cast in a municipality regardless of how many voting days there are or how many properties you own or rent.
Voter Identification Requirements
- An Ontario driver’s licence.
- An Ontario Health Card (photo card).
- An Ontario Photo Card.
- An Ontario motor vehicle permit (vehicle portion).
- A cancelled personalized cheque.
- A mortgage statement, lease or rental agreement relating to property in Ontario.
- An insurance policy or insurance statement.
- A loan agreement or other financial agreement with a financial institution.
- A document issued or certified by a court in Ontario.
- Any other document from the government of Canada, Ontario or a municipality in Ontario or from an agency of such a government.
- Any document from a Band Council in Ontario established under the Indian Act (Canada).
- An income tax assessment notice.
- A Child Tax Benefit Statement.
- A Statement of Employment Insurance Benefits Paid T4E.
- A Statement of Old Age Security T4A (OAS).
- A Statement of Canada Pension Plan Benefits T4A (P)
- A Canada Pension Plan Statement of Contributions.
- A Statement of Direct Deposit for Ontario Works.
- A Statement of Direct Deposit for Ontario Disability Support Program.
- A Workplace Safety and Insurance Board Statement of Benefits T5007.
- A property tax assessment.
- A credit card statement, bank account statement, or RRSP, RRIF, RHOSP or T5 statement.
- A CNIB Card or a card from another registered charitable organization that provides services to persons with disabilities.
- A hospital card or record.
- A document showing campus residence, issued by the office or officials responsible for student residence at a post-secondary institution.
- A document showing residence at a long-term care home under the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021, issued by the Administrator for the home.
- A utility bill for hydro, water, gas, telephone or cable TV or a bill from a public utilities commission.
- A cheque stub, T4 statement or pay receipt issued by an employer.
- A transcript or report card from a post-secondary school.

If you are not on the Voters List, or if your information is incorrect (for example, you have moved and may be listed at a former address), you may apply to have your name added or your information corrected. This may be done until the close of voting on the final day of voting (October 24, 2022). You may have your name added to the Voters List at the voting place. The Municipality of Lakeshore voting method for the 2022 Municipal Election will be conducted by in-person voting with voting tabulators.
Voting Places
Election Day voting will take place on Monday, October 24 from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM at Voting Locations throughout Lakeshore.

Residents of the Municipality of Lakeshore, who are eligible electors, will be voting for the offices of:
- Mayor
- Deputy Mayor
- One Councillor
- One School Board Trustee.
The certified list of candidates will be confirmed August 22, 2022. A list of candidates will be made available at the start of the nomination period.
The Mayor and Deputy Mayor are elected at large by all electors.
Councillors are elected by the eligible voters of each ward one Councillor for each of Lakeshore’s six Wards.
School Board Trustees are elected by areas, which include one or more Municipal wards for the English School Boards. The board you are entitled to vote for is determined by your school support status, as shown on the Voters List. The school boards that have jurisdiction in the Municipality of Lakeshore are:
- Greater Windsor Essex District School Board
- Essex County Catholic District School Board (Note: You must be Roman Catholic to vote for this school board.
- Conseil scolaire Viamonde (Note: you must have French language rights to vote for this school board)
- Conseil scolaire catholique Providence (Note: you must be Roman Catholic and have French language rights to vote for this school board.
You may only vote once in the Municipality of Lakeshore Election regardless of how many properties you own or rent within the city. Non-resident voters who own or rent non-residential property are only permitted to vote for Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Ward Councillor.
If a non-resident voter owns or rents residential property, in addition to the offices of Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Councillor, they can also vote for School Board Trustee (if they have not already voted for school board trustee for the specific school board). Electors may only vote once for their school board trustee, even if they own more than one property in more than one municipality that is within the jurisdiction of the school board.

It is recommended that you check to ensure you're on the Voters List for each Municipal Election. The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is responsible for preparing the preliminary list of electors used for municipal and school board elections in Ontario. We provided all of the information from the completed application forms in the 2018 Municipal Election to the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation for inclusion in the Voters List. However, from time to time, the Voters List may include errors which require correction.
